Best for:Heritage familiesFirst-time Asia travelersPhotography + cuisine lovers
Or: Also consider: combine with Cambodia 12-day Vietnam-Cambodia journey

Vietnam stretches over 1,650 kilometres from the misty mountains of Sapa in the far north to the Mekong Delta in the deep south. In one journey you can trace a coastline of empty beaches, walk through the limestone forests of Phong Nha, share a meal with a Hmong family above terraced rice paddies, and step into the bustling 36 Streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

The country is shaped by three distinct regions, each with its own climate, cuisine, and pace. The North is heritage country: Hanoi’s thousand-year-old quarters, the limestone karsts of Halong Bay, and the cool-season hill towns of Sapa and Mai Chau. Central Vietnam is the historical heart: imperial Hue, lantern-lit Hoi An, the Cham temple ruins of My Son, and the diving capital of Da Nang. The South is energetic and tropical: Ho Chi Minh City’s café culture, the Cu Chi tunnel network, the Mekong’s floating markets, and the white-sand islands of Phu Quoc.

Asia Travel Links DMC has been designing private Vietnam itineraries since 2010. Mike Nguyen and his team work directly with local guides, certified drivers, and family-owned boutique hotels in every region. We don’t resell off-the-shelf circuits. We sketch each route around your group, dates, and pace — whether that’s a 7-day Halong + Hanoi escape, a 14-day classic from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, or a 21-day deep dive including ethnic-minority villages and slow-boat Mekong crossings.

Best window: October to April for dry, cool weather in the North and Central; December to April for the South. Visa: most nationalities qualify for the 90-day single-entry e-visa at USD 25, processed in 3 working days. Local currency is the Vietnamese đồng (VND), but USD is accepted in tourist areas. Tipping is appreciated but not expected — 5-10 percent in restaurants, or USD 5 per day for drivers and guides.

Why book Vietnam with ATL DMC

We have been specialists in Vietnam since 2010. Mike, our founder, is from Hanoi — every itinerary reflects 14 years of vetting hotels, retesting day-trip operators, and personal relationships with the guides we send into the field. We are a Vietnam Administration of Tourism licensed agency (VNAT 01-573/2013), members of IATA, PATA, and ASTA, and insured to USD 1 million for public liability.

Unlike high-volume tour wholesalers, we cap our active itineraries so every traveller gets a dedicated designer. You will hear from Mike or one of our two senior planners within one hour during Vietnam business hours, and always within 24 hours on weekends.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to plan a trip to Vietnam.

Do I need a visa to enter Vietnam?
Most nationalities qualify for the 90-day single-entry e-visa at USD 25, processed in 3 working days at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. We file it for you free of charge for clients booking a full itinerary.
When is the best time to visit Vietnam?
October to April is the dry, cool window across most of the country. North Vietnam is coolest Dec-Feb (can hit 10°C in Sapa). Central Vietnam is best Feb-Aug (typhoons Sep-Nov). South Vietnam is dry Dec-Apr, wet Jun-Sep.
Is Vietnam safe for first-time travellers?
Vietnam is among the safer countries in Southeast Asia. Petty pickpocketing in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh markets is the main concern · use a money belt and stay alert in crowds. Violent crime against tourists is very rare.
How many days do I need in Vietnam?
Minimum 7 days to cover one region well (e.g., North only: Hanoi + Halong + Sapa). 14 days for North + Central + South in one trip. 21 days for a deeper dive including ethnic-minority villages, Phong Nha caves, or Phu Quoc island.
Can I customise the itinerary?
Yes · every Asia Travel Links itinerary is private and tailor-made. We start from a template you choose, then adjust dates, pace, hotel tier, guides, and inclusions to your group. There is no extra fee for customisation.
What is the currency and should I bring USD?
Vietnamese đồng (VND) is the local currency. USD is widely accepted in tourist areas and we accept USD for tour payment. Bring small denominations (USD 5-50) for tips, vendor markets, and emergency cash. ATMs are plentiful in cities.
How much should I tip in Vietnam?
Tipping is appreciated but not expected. Common guidelines: 5-10% in restaurants serving foreign clientele; USD 5-7 per day for private drivers; USD 8-12 per day for English-speaking guides on multi-day trips. We will brief you per region during pre-trip handover.
